Laughter, learning, and community spirit filled the halls of the Jamaica Muslim Center (JMC) on Sunday, June 7, 2026, as JMC Youth organized a Family Fun Day that brought together more than 200 children.
The indoor event, held at JMC in Queens, welcomed boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 11. Designed to promote learning, friendship, and community engagement, the program combined Islamic education with recreational activities, creating a memorable experience for participating children and their families.
Throughout the afternoon, children participated in a variety of activities. One of the highlights of the event was an interactive Islamic knowledge session in which children sat with moderators and answered questions about Islamic teachings, history, and notable Muslim scholars Moderators guided participants through age-appropriate questions about Islamic values, the lives of respected scholars, and everyday life. Organizers said the educational session was designed not only to test knowledge but also to build confidence among children by allowing them to speak in front of their peers in a supportive
environment.
“The goal was to create a space where children could learn while having fun,” one organizer said. “We wanted them to feel comfortable participating, sharing their ideas, and connecting with other children in the community.”
In addition to educational activities, children enthusiastically participated in a series of games and competitions. Popular activities included ball-passing contests, musical chairs, and rope-stretching challenges. The games encouraged teamwork, coordination, and friendly competition while keeping participants active and engaged throughout the event. The atmosphere remained energetic as children cheered for one another and celebrated their successes. The interactive game session was led by social activist Mohammad Bahe.

Parents and guardians who accompanied their children also expressed appreciation for the program, highlighting the importance of safe and educational community activities for young people. Many families said events like Family Fun Day provide opportunities for children to develop friendships, strengthen their connection to the community, and participate in positive activities during the summer season.
“Events like this show what can be accomplished when community members come together with a shared purpose,” a guardian said. “The smiles on the children’s faces are the greatest reward for everyone who contributed.”
The celebration continued with a raffle draw that generated excitement among participants. During the drawing, 60 children received gifts and rizes, adding another memorable element to the day’s festivities.
The success of the event was made possible through the efforts of numerous volunteers and community leaders who dedicated their time and resources to planning and managing the program. Organizers recognized several individuals for their contributions, including Arif Chowdhury, Wacef Chowdhury, Afrin, Sameek, Zahran, and Md. Shohidullah, President
of Save the People.
JMC Youth representatives successfully organized the program and thanked its sponsors and supporters. Representatives from BHALO and Save the People highlighted the importance of investing in youth-focused initiatives that foster learning, confidence, and community involvement.
For many participants, Family Fun Day was more than an afternoon of games and prizes. It was an opportunity to learn, connect, and celebrate community in a welcoming environment that encouraged both personal growth and shared enjoyment.
