Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned the United States against backing away from commitments made under any potential memorandum of understanding (MoU) or future agreement between the two countries.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf stressed that any commitments made must be fully honored.
“Any promise that is made must be kept. There can be no excuses, no conditions, and no room for reinterpretation,” he wrote.
Referring to the ongoing negotiations, Ghalibaf added that there is no alternative path for any future agreement.
“There is no other way forward for a potential deal. As you sow, so shall you reap,” he said.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outlined the framework of a possible memorandum of understanding with the United States. According to Araghchi, such an agreement could pave the way for a broader and more comprehensive deal between the two countries in the future.
Meanwhile, negotiations between Washington and Tehran have reportedly made significant progress. Several media reports suggest that both sides are close to reaching an agreement.
The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. Vice President JD Vance may travel to Geneva to sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran.
According to the report, citing a U.S. official, any easing of American sanctions would depend on Iran meeting specific conditions related to its nuclear program.
The report also noted that technical issues remaining unresolved after the signing of the memorandum could be discussed in further negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan.
