Sylhet-6 (Golapganj-Bianibazar) Member of Parliament and General Secretary of Sylhet জেলা BNP, Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, has underscored the vital role of expatriates in supporting both their families and the national economy, announcing plans to establish a dedicated legal assistance cell for overseas Bangladeshis. He made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing a Ramadan cash distribution program organized by the Golapganj Foundation of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, for underprivileged families in Golapganj Upazila.
In his speech as the chief guest, Chowdhury said expatriates consistently strive not only to meet the needs of their loved ones but also to bring relief and hope to disadvantaged people across the country. He noted that their hard-earned remittances play a crucial role
in keeping the national economy vibrant.
“The government is working to enhance the dignity and expand facilities for expatriates. Insha’Allah, I will soon establish a legal assistance cell dedicated to serving and supporting expatriates,” he said.
The MP also highlighted development initiatives in his constituency, stating that since assuming responsibility, the government has undertaken development projects across the country, including in Golapganj-Bianibazar. He said efforts are already underway to improve the neglected communication infrastructure in Golapganj.
Chowdhury further revealed that he has initiated discussions with the relevant ministry regarding the construction of bridges over the Surma River at Baghai in Golapganj and over the Kushiyara River at Sharifganj. He expressed optimism that phased development projects would gradually address local needs.
The event was held at the Golapganj Upazila conference hall, presided over by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Md. Rafiqul Islam, moderated by Kamrul Hasan Sahan, Executive Committee Member of the Golapganj Foundation of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and former chairman of Fulbari Union Parishad.
Special guests included Foundation Adviser and Canada-based expatriate Layek Chowdhury and Organizational Secretary and Canada-based expatriate Ali Hossain.
