WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the ongoing confrontation with Iran will conclude “very quickly,” asserting that Tehran is eager to reach a diplomatic settlement.
Speaking to lawmakers during an event at the White House, President Trump expressed confidence that Washington would swiftly bring an end to the current hostilities.
Focus on the Nuclear Issue
According to a report by Al Jazeera, the President described Iran as economically and politically depleted by the current state of affairs, suggesting they are desperate to negotiate.
“They are exhausted,” Trump said, before reiterating Washington’s firm stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “They have the nuclear poison on their minds, and we are not going to let them have a nuclear weapon.”
He praised the administration’s strategy, adding:
“We’ve done a fantastic job. I think we’re going to end this very quickly. They won’t have a nuclear weapon, and hopefully, we’ll do it in a very nice way.”
Congressional Pushback
The President’s optimistic remarks come amid significant legislative developments on Capitol Hill. The Republican-controlled Senate recently voted to pass a War Powers Resolution.
The resolution, approved on Tuesday, aims to restrict the administration’s ability to conduct prolonged military operations against Iran without explicit authorization from Congress.
