U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested several undocumented immigrants involved in serious criminal activities during recent nationwide operations. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), those detained include individuals convicted of or accused of cases involving child abuse, rape, sexual violence, drug trafficking, fraud, and assault. The list of suspects also includes several Bangladeshi nationals.
According to information released by the Department of Homeland Security, the arrests are part of an ongoing law-enforcement initiative aimed at identifying and detaining undocumented immigrants who have been convicted of serious crimes in the United States. Officials say the main goal of the operation is to ensure public safety by removing dangerous offenders.
Lauren Beas, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, said in a statement that law enforcement officers have recently arrested several undocumented immigrants involved in serious criminal offences. Among them are individuals accused or convicted of child abuse, rape, and other violent crimes. She added that those who harm vulnerable children or innocent people should not have the opportunity to remain in the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security also stated that immigration enforcement has been strengthened since President Donald Trump began his second term in office. According to government claims, more than 713,000 undocumented immigrants have already been removed from the United States during his administration.
Among those arrested in the recent operations are individuals with records of serious crimes. Vietnamese national Tuan Thanh Nguyen was convicted in St. Louis, Missouri, of four counts of unlawful sexual conduct and two counts of child abuse. Mendez Cabrera was convicted of sexual assault in Oakland, California. Venezuelan national Ronny Rojas Hernandez was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in Austin, Texas. Another Mexican national, Ronaldo Rojas Flores, was convicted in Salinas, California, on charges of false imprisonment and domestic violence.
Meanwhile, information released by the Department of Homeland Security shows that several Bangladeshi nationals were also among those arrested in recent operations, facing various criminal allegations.
Kazi Abu Sayeed, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested in Fort Scott, Kansas, on charges including exploitation of a minor, operating illegal gambling, and gambling-related offences. Shahed Hasan was arrested in Raleigh, North Carolina, on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and shoplifting. Mohammad Ahmed was arrested in Buffalo, New York, on allegations of sexual abuse and sexual offences. MD Hossain was arrested in Queens, New York, on charges of sexual abuse.
Authorities also arrested Mahtabuddin Ahmed in Chantilly, Virginia, on charges related to marijuana sales and distribution of hallucinogenic drugs. Nawaz Khan was arrested in Marlin, Texas, on charges involving dangerous narcotics. Shahriya Abir was arrested in Pensacola, Florida, on theft charges. Alamgir Chowdhury was arrested in Mount Clemens, Michigan, on allegations of credit card fraud. Ishtiaq Rafi was arrested in Manassas, Virginia, on charges related to weapons offences and possession of synthetic drugs. Konok Parvez was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona, on fraud charges.
Officials from the Department of Homeland Security said the ongoing operations across the country are primarily targeting undocumented immigrants with records of serious crimes who are considered threats to public safety.
The department also stated that such operations will continue to ensure the safety of people living in the United States, and that undocumented immigrants involved in serious criminal offences will be identified and removed from the country through legal processes.
