A van crashed through a security barricade near the White House early Wednesday morning, triggering a swift response from federal and local law enforcement agencies in Washington, D.C.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, officers responded at approximately 6:37 a.m. EDT to the intersection of Connecticut Avenue NW and H Street NW after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck and pushed through a protective barrier located near the White House complex.
Authorities said the driver of the van was immediately detained at the scene. The individual is currently being questioned by the United States Secret Service as part of an ongoing investigation. Officials have not yet released the identity of the driver and it remains unclear what charges, if any, may be filed.
Law enforcement agencies quickly secured the area following the crash. Several streets and access points surrounding the White House were temporarily closed while security teams inspected the vehicle and assessed any potential threat.
Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident. As a precaution, security personnel conducted a thorough examination of the van before clearing the scene.
Traffic disruptions were reported in parts of downtown Washington during the morning hours as police and federal agents continued their investigation.
Authorities say the motive behind the crash remains unclear. Investigators are continuing to question the driver and review evidence to determine whether the incident was intentional or accidental.
