Toronto, July 9, 2026: It seemed as though nature itself was waiting to witness a joyful celebration for seniors. On Sunday morning, July 5, Toronto’s scenic Bluffer’s Park was transformed into a vibrant gathering place. The intense summer sun appeared to soften its heat, and although clouds drifted across the sky throughout the day, the rain stayed away. Surrounded by the tranquil blue waters of Lake Ontario, cool breezes, and breathtaking greenery, the Bengali Information and Employment Services (BIES) hosted its annual Summer Picnic for Seniors.

More than just a picnic, the event was a unique celebration of love, respect, and togetherness for senior members of the community. With the lively participation of 62 seniors, Bluffer’s Park was transformed into a small piece of Bangladesh.
A large number of participants traveled to Bluffer’s Park by public transportation from Victoria Park Station. The entire journey was coordinated by the staff of BIES and the Canadian Centre. Many others attended the event using their personal vehicles or Wheel-Trans services. From morning until evening, the atmosphere was filled with warmth, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of family.
The festive spirit was evident from the very beginning of the picnic. Some participants enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, while others warmly embraced acquaintances they had not seen for a long time. Laughter and happiness spread throughout the park.
The cultural program was one of the day’s major attractions. The park came alive with the melodies of Bengali songs. Seniors sang, danced, and participated in karaoke performances. Through team competitions and fun games, they seemed to relive the joyful days of their youth. The cheerful environment also attracted other visitors to the park, many of whom joined in to enjoy the music and dancing.

The food arrangements reflected the organizers’ heartfelt hospitality. Guests were welcomed with hot samosas and tea. Lunch featured delicious polao, roast, and the ever-popular gulab jamun for dessert. The delicious meal, combined with lively conversations, added even more warmth and enjoyment to the gathering.
Following lunch, the celebrations continued with even greater excitement. Seniors showcased their talents through Bengali karaoke performances. BIES staff organized the popular “Pillow Passing” competition, where the first three winners received cash prizes. A separate fun competition for men also entertained everyone in attendance.
Speaking at the event, BIES Executive Director Imam Uddin said, “It gives us immense joy to create at least one day each year where our community’s seniors can enjoy happiness, togetherness, and respect. Their smiling faces are our greatest reward.”
BIES Program and Services Director Golam Mostafa thanked everyone for attending the event. On behalf of the seniors, Enamul Haque, Mazharul Haque, Reena Sen Gupta, and Rahat Zaman delivered brief remarks, encouraging the organizers to continue arranging such events regularly and expressing their sincere gratitude.
As the day drew to a close and everyone prepared to return home, there was no sadness of farewell on anyone’s face. Instead, there was eager anticipation for the next reunion. Filled with smiles, songs, dancing, friendship, warmth, and countless cherished memories, the participants believe this memorable day will remain bright in their hearts for a long time.
