Host nation Mexico continued their impressive World Cup campaign by defeating Czech Republic 3-0 in their final group-stage match, securing top spot with a flawless record.
Having already qualified for the knockout rounds after winning their opening two matches, Mexico entered the game with confidence. The Czech Republic, meanwhile, needed a victory to keep their hopes of advancing alive.
After a scoreless first half, Mexico broke the deadlock in the 55th minute through Mateo Chavez. The hosts extended their advantage just six minutes later when winger Quinones found the net to make it 2-0.
Despite needing a comeback, the Czech side struggled to break through Mexico’s organized defense. Instead, Mexico added a third goal deep into stoppage time to put the result beyond doubt.
The victory means Mexico finished the group stage with three wins from three matches and without conceding a single goal. In contrast, the Czech Republic managed only one point from their three games and were eliminated from the tournament.
