Dhaka — A formal legal notice has been served to Nasiruddin Patwari, a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), over allegedly making derogatory and defamatory remarks regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his daughter, Zaima Rahman.
The notice was issued by AKM Azizul Haque Khan, an advocate at the Mymensingh Judges’ Court and a Public Prosecutor (PP) for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Confirming the matter on Saturday (May 23), the lawyer stated that a copy of the legal notice had also been made public on his social media profile.
According to the notice, Nasiruddin Patwari recently made highly objectionable comments targeting the Prime Minister and his daughter. The document asserts that these remarks have deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of citizens across the country, including the sender himself.
“Making such derogatory comments about the country’s Prime Minister and his family while holding a responsible political position is entirely unacceptable,” Advocate Azizul Haque Khan stated, adding that further legal steps would be determined upon receiving a response.
The notice directs the NCP leader to provide a written explanation within 15 days as to why a defamation lawsuit should not be filed against him in court. It warns that failure to provide a satisfactory response within the stipulated timeframe will result in formal legal proceedings.
