Violence Erupts During PSG Title Celebrations, 45 Arrested in Paris

Arsenal supporters filled Budapest’s Puskás Stadium with chants for more than an hour, but Ousmane Dembélé eventually silenced the sea of red in the stands. As the match progressed and ultimately went to a penalty shootout, misses from Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães helped spark jubilant celebrations among Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans—not only in Budapest but also across Paris.

However, the celebrations following PSG’s second UEFA Champions League triumph turned violent in parts of the French capital. According to police, a group of individuals attempted to attack a police station, prompting authorities to intervene. Paris police arrested 45 people during the unrest.

Near the Arc de Triomphe, hundreds of supporters marched through the streets, setting off fireworks and sounding car horns in celebration. Around 20,000 people gathered on the Champs-Élysées, where police worked to manage the crowds and maintain order.

Paris police reported that several small groups caused disturbances in different parts of the city. Some individuals vandalized shops and started fires. One police officer was injured during the incidents. In the city’s 8th arrondissement, a group attempted to storm a police station but was dispersed by officers.

By 10:00 p.m., 45 people had been taken into police custody. Authorities also cleared a group that had blocked the main ring road surrounding Paris. Police said that a bakery and a restaurant were damaged during the disturbances.

Officials further stated that around 1,000 people gathered near PSG’s stadium. Police dismantled bicycle barricades that had been erected by some members of the crowd.

Following PSG’s first Champions League title victory in May of last year, more than 500 people were detained across France. In anticipation of this year’s celebrations, Paris had been placed on high alert, with approximately 8,000 police officers deployed throughout the city.
