U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, saying the country would face overwhelming military retaliation if it attempted to assassinate him. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump claimed that the United States would launch “thousands” of missiles at Iran in response to any such attack, according to Al Jazeera.
Trump’s remarks come at a time of heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, particularly over U.S. military bases in the Middle East and developments around the Strait of Hormuz. The statement also follows renewed vows by senior figures in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to seek revenge for the killing of commanders linked to past U.S. operations.
“1,000 Missiles Locked and Loaded”
In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote that if the Iranian government were to carry out or attempt an assassination against the President of the United States—”meaning me”—then 1,000 missiles are already “locked and loaded” and aimed at Iran. He added that after the initial strike, thousands more missiles would be launched immediately.
Trump further claimed that the U.S. military has already received the necessary orders for such a response. According to his post, the armed forces are fully prepared, willing, and capable of carrying out sustained military operations against targets across Iran for up to one year, with the possibility of extending the campaign if necessary.
Analysts Raise Concerns
Geopolitical analysts say that a public statement by a head of state threatening to completely destroy another sovereign nation is highly unusual in international politics. They note that such rhetoric raises concerns about diplomatic norms and compliance with international law.
