Trump–Iran Trade Power Grid Threats

Ariana Zaman: US President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States can cripple Iran’s electricity infrastructure within an hour, though he said Washington has so far refrained from taking such action.

Trump made the remarks amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, suggesting that the United States possesses the capacity to quickly dismantle Iran’s power grid if it chooses to do so.

Iran quickly responded to the statement. Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s National Security Council, warned that any attack on Iran’s power infrastructure would lead to immediate retaliation with serious regional consequences.

In a post on the social media platform X, Larijani referred to Trump’s statement, writing that the US president said Washington could destroy Iran’s electricity capacity within an hour but had not done so.

Larijani then issued a strong warning, saying that if such an attack were carried out, the entire Middle East could be plunged into darkness within 30 minutes.

He added that widespread power outages across the region would make it easier for Iranian forces to track and capture US forces attempting to leave the area.

The exchange of threats highlights growing tensions between the United States and Iran. Analysts warn that the possibility of cyber or military strikes targeting power infrastructure could further destabilize the already fragile security situation across the Middle East.
