North Korea Launches AI-Controlled Missile

North Korea has conducted a test launch of an artificial intelligence (AI)-controlled missile for the first time, according to the country’s state-run news agency KCNA on Wednesday.

In a report, KCNA said that under the supervision of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, North Korea successfully carried out test launches of tactical ballistic missiles, artillery rockets, and AI-guided precision cruise missiles. The launch program took place on Tuesday.

Kim stated that the AI-controlled cruise missile is capable of accurately striking targets up to 100 kilometers away.

Over the past several years, North Korea has successfully tested a number of long-range ballistic missiles. However, this marks the country’s first launch of an AI-operated missile system.

According to KCNA, the tests were conducted under the “Special Mission Warhead” project to evaluate the missiles’ power and their ability to hit targets with precision.

Following the launch, Kim Jong Un said in a statement, “The tests demonstrated that we have significantly improved both the weapons and the automated launch systems. These weapons are advanced enough to adapt effectively to modern warfare.”

Kim also said the tests confirmed the combat readiness of cruise missiles intended for deployment with artillery units near the South Korean border. The missiles are equipped with precise navigation systems and AI-guided control technology capable of hitting targets at distances of up to 100 kilometers (62 miles).

He further stated that he intends to deploy the newly tested weapons near the border with South Korea.

Reuters contacted the South Korean military for comment, but no spokesperson was willing to provide detailed remarks. A military representative only confirmed that South Korea is aware of North Korea’s recent missile tests.
