A 50-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a cement-laden three-wheeler in Bangladesh’s Patuakhali district while walking with her young daughter. The fatal accident occurred in front of the child and was captured on CCTV footage that has since circulated widely on social media.
The incident took place at around 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday on Latif School Road in Patuakhali town.
CCTV footage shows Hosneara Begum walking along the roadside while holding her daughter’s hand when a fast-moving three-wheeler carrying cement approached from behind and hit her. She fell onto the road, and the vehicle’s wheel ran over her.
Local residents detained the driver after the crash and alerted police. Hosneara was rushed to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Her husband, Md. Faruk Sharif, said his wife had gone out with their younger daughter to look at a rental house. While they were walking along the roadside in the Latif School Road area, the cement-laden vehicle struck her from behind, causing fatal injuries.
Dr. Saikat Hasan, the attending physician at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, said the woman had died before reaching the hospital and had sustained multiple traumatic injuries consistent with a road accident.
Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Moniruzzaman said police have seized the three-wheeler and taken its driver into custody. He added that legal action will be taken if the victim’s family files a formal complaint.
