A Delta Air Lines employee was killed in a tragic accident at Orlando International Airport in Florida after being struck by an aircraft towing vehicle. Authorities said the incident occurred following a collision with a passenger boarding bridge on the runway area.
According to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the accident happened at approximately 10:55 p.m. on Thursday when a towing vehicle, known as a “tug,” struck a passenger boarding bridge connected to Delta Flight 2593. The employee died at the scene.
The FAA confirmed that no aircraft was directly involved in the crash. However, all passengers on the affected flight were safely evacuated through the rear door, and the flight was subsequently canceled.
Delta Air Lines has not yet released the identity of the deceased employee. In a statement, the airline expressed deep sorrow, saying, “The Delta family is devastated by the loss of one of our team members while on duty. A full investigation into how this accident occurred is underway, and we are cooperating with local authorities.”
The Orlando Police Department said preliminary findings suggest the incident appears to have been accidental and unintentional. Investigators are also examining whether any criminal negligence was involved. Police added that although the investigation is taking place within a restricted area of the airport, the overall impact on airport operations has been minimal.
Following the incident, Delta temporarily suspended operations at its Orlando station. The employee’s death has left colleagues and family members mourning the loss.
