Bangladesh to Open FIFA ASEAN Cup Campaign Against Malaysia

Bangladesh will begin their campaign in the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup against Malaysia on September 25 in Jakarta, with the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) releasing the team’s complete group-stage schedule on Wednesday.

The match will kick off at 3pm Bangladesh time at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

Bangladesh will then face Singapore at the same venue and at the same time on September 28.

Their final group-stage fixture will be against hosts Indonesia on October 1, with kick-off scheduled for 6:30pm Bangladesh time, also at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

Bangladesh Drawn in Group A

Bangladesh have been placed in Group A of the Premier Division alongside hosts Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Group B consists of Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Pakistan.

The inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup is scheduled to begin on September 24 in Indonesia. Bangladesh are entering the tournament after being invited as a replacement following the withdrawal of India.

The tournament features a Premier Division and a Challenge Division, with teams from Southeast Asia joined by invited sides from outside the region.

Preparations Underway

Bangladesh have already begun preparations for the tournament. The national team is currently holding a training camp at Bashundhara Kings Arena under head coach Thomas Dooley.

The FIFA ASEAN Cup will provide Bangladesh with an opportunity to test themselves against several of the region’s established teams, with Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia awaiting them in Group A.

For Bangladesh, the campaign begins on September 25 with a challenging opening fixture against Malaysia in Jakarta.
