Eid Joy Among Expatriates in New Jersey: Congregational Prayers Turn into a Grand Reunion

By Al Mamun

Bangladeshi Muslim expatriates across New Jersey and other states in the United States offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on Friday, March 20, with great enthusiasm. Despite the demands of life abroad, the day of Eid turned into a unique occasion of joy, emotion, and togetherness.

As in previous years, Eid was celebrated in New Jersey this year with due religious solemnity and a spirit of social harmony, organised by the Bangladeshi Muslim community. Hundreds of expatriate Bangladeshis participated in the Eid prayers, transforming the gathering into a festive reunion.

The main congregation was held at 9:30 a.m. at the Our House Banquet Hall in Farmingdale Township, New Jersey. Worshippers gathered with their families to offer prayers, experiencing spiritual peace and a strong sense of unity through this collective act.

Renowned physicist Dr. Zahid Hasan led the prayer. Under his leadership, the congregation performed the prayers with deep religious devotion, creating a meaningful example of both spirituality and social cohesion.

After the prayers, attendees embraced one another and exchanged Eid greetings. The atmosphere became lively as many met friends and acquaintances after a long time. The entire event was filled with the joy and laughter of children dressed in new clothes.

Many expatriates shared that although they miss their families back home, such community gatherings help fill that emotional gap. These initiatives also play an important role in preserving religious and cultural values among the younger generation.

Following the prayers, breakfast was served. The owner of the banquet hall, Mr. Robi Mawla, arranged a complimentary breakfast for all attendees, adding warmth and hospitality to the event.

The weather on Eid day was also favourable. The sky remained partly sunny with some clouds throughout the day. Although it was slightly cool in the morning and evening, the temperature became comfortable by midday. The absence of rain or snow allowed all activities to proceed smoothly.

Overall, the Eid congregation in New Jersey was not just a religious ritual; it stood as a symbol of unity, harmony, and love among expatriate Bangladeshis, helping them stay connected to their roots even while living abroad.
