An IndiGo passenger aircraft flying from Doha to Bengaluru was diverted to Muscat after one of its pilots suffered a medical emergency during the flight.
The incident occurred on Thursday aboard IndiGo flight 6E 1302. After the pilot suddenly became unwell and was unable to continue flying, an emergency alert was issued and the aircraft was redirected to Muscat International Airport in Oman.
Co-Pilot Takes Control
According to an Indian aviation official, the pilot’s condition deteriorated during the flight to the point where he could no longer perform his duties.
Commercial passenger aircraft typically operate with two qualified pilots, allowing the co-pilot to take over if the captain becomes incapacitated. In this case, the second pilot remained in control and successfully landed the aircraft in Muscat.
The affected pilot was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. IndiGo later said his condition was stable and that all passengers and other crew members were safe.
Alternative Aircraft Arranged
IndiGo arranged another aircraft and a replacement crew to take the passengers from Muscat to Bengaluru.
While waiting for the alternative flight, passengers were provided with food and arrangements were made for them to rest at the airport.
The airline apologized for the temporary disruption and said it had taken steps to minimize the inconvenience. IndiGo reiterated that the safety of its passengers and crew remained its highest priority.
Another IndiGo Incident Reported Earlier
The latest incident comes shortly after another disruption involving an IndiGo aircraft. A Goa-to-Delhi flight was reportedly forced to make an emergency landing after experiencing a mechanical problem.
Despite the latest mid-air medical emergency, the Doha-Bengaluru flight landed safely in Muscat, preventing what could have developed into a more serious situation.
