Bangladesh participated in the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, held from July 12–13 in Islamabad, Pakistan. A delegation led by the Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare, Professor Dr. Abu Jafar Md. Jahid Hossain, attended the two-day event.
The conference, hosted at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad, brought together ministerial representatives from OIC member states. The Bangladeshi delegation also included Yasmin Parveen, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs; Dr. Md. Mahmudul Haque, Private Secretary to the Minister; and Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan.
On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Professor Dr. Abu Jafar Md. Jahid Hossain held a meeting with Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Zahra Behrouz Azar. The discussion was also attended by Bangladesh High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan and Iranian Deputy Head of Mission Nabi Ullah Shirazi.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation within the Muslim Ummah to build an inclusive and humane society. The Bangladeshi Minister highlighted the government’s extensive initiatives in women’s development, education, healthcare, and social security. He specifically noted the recently launched “Family Card” program for women and called for enhanced bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Iran in education, health, and child development.
The Iranian Vice President expressed her gratitude for the participation of a Bangladeshi delegation, led by the Speaker of the National Parliament, at the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader.
Praising Bangladesh as a role model for women’s empowerment, she commended the government’s initiatives. She also shared insights into the educational advancements of women in Iran and expressed a strong interest in working together to promote women’s development across the Muslim world. Furthermore, she extended an official invitation to the Bangladeshi Minister to visit Iran.
