Beginning October 1, 2026, all consular fees for applicants receiving in-person services at the Bangladesh Consulate General in New York must be paid exclusively by debit or credit card. Money orders and bank-certified checks will no longer be accepted for in-person transactions.
The Consulate announced the new policy in a press release issued on Wednesday, July 1.
According to the announcement, the decision has been made to enhance the transparency, security, efficiency, and accountability of its consular services. As a result, individuals visiting the Consulate for services such as passport applications, No Visa Required (NVR) endorsements, powers of attorney, attestations, and other consular matters will be required to pay the applicable fees using a valid debit or credit card.
The Consulate clarified that the new payment policy will not apply to applications submitted by mail. Applicants using postal services may continue to pay fees through money orders or bank-certified checks under the existing procedures.
The Consulate has advised all visitors to bring a valid and active debit or credit card when seeking services in person. It also emphasized that cash payments and any other alternative methods of payment will not be accepted.
In its statement, the Bangladesh Consulate General in New York reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality, efficient, and timely consular services to the Bangladeshi community. It also requested the cooperation of the Bangladeshi diaspora in ensuring the successful implementation of the new payment system.
