Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that Israel is prepared to launch further military strikes against Iran if necessary, insisting that Tehran must never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
Speaking in an interview with Israel’s Channel 14 on Tuesday, Netanyahu said Israel had acted to protect itself from what he described as the threat of an Iranian nuclear bomb. He reiterated that preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons remains a key security priority for his government.
His remarks come as a recently announced memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran has entered into effect. According to the reported framework, the agreement outlines a process for negotiations on several long-standing issues between Washington and Tehran, including a ceasefire, sanctions relief, Iran’s nuclear programme, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional security arrangements.
Israel has consistently opposed efforts to reach agreements with Iran, arguing that Tehran’s nuclear activities continue to pose a security risk. Israeli officials have repeatedly maintained that military action remains an option if they believe Iran is moving closer to developing nuclear weapons.
