After days of anticipation, tension, speculation, and intense discussions, the unofficial results of the Jalalabad Association of Toronto election have finally been announced. This year’s election didnot produce a single sweeping victory for any panel, resulting in a
mixed outcome that reflects the voters’ balanced and thoughtful decision-making.
In the most closely watched contest for the presidency, Ebad Chowdhury won by a margin of 126 votes. He secured 1,834 votes. His closest rival, Mahbub Chowdhury Roni, received 1,708 votes, while another candidate, Intikhab Chowdhury Tuhin, obtained 848 votes.
In the General Secretary race, Russell Ahmed emerged victorious with 1,779 votes. His nearest competitor, Babul Khan, received 1,442 votes, while Ejaz Ahmed Chowdhury secured 972 votes.
For the Executive Vice President position, Mehedi Maruf was elected with 1,847 votes. His opponents were Moinul Islam, who received 1,388 votes, and Tareq Chowdhury Tanvir, who secured 961 votes.
In the Vice President (Sylhet) category, Abdul Kalam was elected. In the Moulvibazar seat, Tahmina Chowdhury won. In the Sunamganj seat, Amzad Ali was elected, and in the Habiganj seat, Md. Zubair Ahmed secured victory.
For the Joint General Secretary-1 post, Jewel Ahmed was elected, while Monsoor Ahmed won the Joint General Secretary-2 position by a large margin.
Hassan Tarek Imam was elected Treasurer, and Iqbal Ahmed Chowdhury secured the Assistant Treasurer position.
In other key posts, Mahdi Chowdhury was elected Organizational Secretary, Naim Chowdhury Assistant Organizational Secretary, Faruk Ahmed Office Secretary, and Al Amin won the Post of Publicity and Publication Secretary. Lutfor Rahman was elected Assistant Publicity and Publication Secretary.
Gulam Imran Suman was elected Youth and Education Affairs Secretary. In sports, Md. Nahid Ahmed was elected Sports Secretary and Tanim Iqbal Chowdhury was elected Assistant Sports Secretary.
In religious affairs, Maulana Mohammad Nurul Islam was elected Religious Affairs Secretary. Ziaul Islam Rinku was elected Cultural Affairs Secretary, while Parmita Sen Tinni won the post of Assistant Cultural Affairs Secretary.
In social welfare, Faisal Ahmed was elected Social Welfare Secretary. Ali Hossain became Information and Technology Secretary, and Syeda Moksuda Begum Renu was elected Women Affairs Secretary.
For the executive member posts, Md. Mokbul Hossain Manju, Hossain Ahmed Loni, Rizwan Chowdhury, and Abu Jahir Sakib were elected.
Overall, out of 29 posts, the Roni–Maruf–Russell panel won 20 positions, while the Ebad–Moinul–Babul panel secured 9 positions. Although the top leadership positions were split between panels, the majority of the executive body is dominated by the Roni–Maruf–Russell panel.
The election results demonstrate that voters of the Jalalabad Association of Toronto did not favor a single-sided dominance this time. Instead, they opted for balance, shared leadership, and diverse representation within the organization.
Ali Hossain, newly elected Information and Technology Secretary, expressed gratitude to the voters, stating that he is committed to repaying their trust through dedicated service. He also thanked Prothom Alo North America for its continuous coverage of the election process.
