Several New York affiliates of the influential Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) have officially endorsed Governor Kathy Hochul’s re-election campaign. Union leaders praised Governor Hochul as a dependable ally of organized labor and a leader who has consistently worked to strengthen the middle class.
In a statement released on May 15, the endorsing organizations included LIUNA Eastern Region, LIUNA New England Region, Laborers Local 79, and the Mason Tenders District Council of Greater New York and Long Island.
Accepting the endorsement, Governor Hochul said she was proud to receive the support of New York’s labor unions. She noted that she personally understands how a union card can change people’s lives. As governor, she said she is proud to represent the most unionized state in the United States.
Hochul highlighted the critical role union workers play in major infrastructure projects across New York, including the modernization of John F. Kennedy International Airport, the Gateway Program tunnel project, the Second Avenue Subway expansion, and offshore wind energy developments.
Mike Hellstrom said Governor Hochul has consistently stood with working people in New York. He praised her leadership on workplace safety standards, infrastructure investment, project labor agreements, and fair wages.
Meanwhile, Panota A. Bianco Jr. said Governor Hochul has worked to expand opportunities for union-based construction jobs, strengthen apprenticeship programs, and amplify the voices of working-class communities. He described her as a practical leader who takes effective action to deliver large-scale projects.
David Bolger stated that it is especially important in the current political climate to support leaders with a proven record of standing with organized labor. He said Governor Hochul has repeatedly supported efforts to secure better wages, healthcare benefits, and dignified retirement opportunities for workers.
Anthony Vita added that Governor Hochul has played an important role in maintaining union standards and training systems within New York City’s construction industry. For that reason, Laborers Local 79 is supporting her re-election campaign.
Union leaders also said they will not only endorse Hochul but will actively organize working-class communities and campaign on her behalf during the election season.
