Iran has rejected attending planned talks in Pakistan, according to the semi official Tasnim News Agency. The report said Iran made the decision after the United States refused to withdraw what Iran described as excessive demands.
Iran informed Pakistan and mediators that it would not join negotiations tomorrow. The report could not be independently verified. Officials in Tehran say mistrust remains the main issue. There has been no formal response to the ceasefire announced by the United States.
Iranian leaders are also demanding an end to the naval blockade and attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman before any new negotiations move forward.
