Two Bangladeshi doctoral students at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa have been missing since Thursday, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the university’s police department. The missing students have been identified as 27-year-old Jamil Limon and Nahida Sultana Brishti. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is
assisting in the investigation.
Jamil Limon was last seen on Thursday at around 9:00 a.m. at his residence in the Avalon Heights student housing complex, located at 13612 Avalon Heights Boulevard near the USF Tampa campus. Authorities say there has been no contact with him since. He is a PhD researcher in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science and Policy.
Nahida Sultana Brishti was last seen the same day at around 10:00 a.m. inside the Natural and Environmental Sciences Building on campus, located at 121 Sweetgum Lane. She is pursuing her doctoral studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
A family friend contacted USF Police on Friday, shortly before 5:00 p.m., after being unable to reach either student. Police formally documented Nahida’s disappearance, while Jamil’s case was referred to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Both have since been entered
into state and national missing persons databases.
The incident has raised concern within the Bangladeshi community in the United States. Authorities have not released further details at this time.
Anyone who may have seen Jamil or Nahida, or has information about their whereabouts, is urged to contact USF Police at 813-974-2628.
