The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security following a missile attack by Yemen’s Houthi movement, pledging continued support for the kingdom against threats from the Iran-backed group.
In a statement to Al Arabiya English, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State said Washington stands firmly with Saudi Arabia in the face of what it described as Iranian aggression and attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthis.
The spokesperson said the United States remains committed to safeguarding Saudi Arabia’s security and supporting broader regional stability, describing the U.S.-Saudi relationship as a cornerstone of Washington’s Middle East policy.
The official also said the strategic partnership between the two countries has been further strengthened under President Donald Trump’s administration.
According to the State Department, countering the Houthi movement and holding Iran accountable for its support of the group remain key U.S. foreign policy priorities.
The spokesperson noted that the Trump administration redesignated the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization shortly after taking office, arguing that the move reflects Washington’s continued focus on addressing regional security threats.
