Trump Predicts US-China Ties Will Be ‘Better Than Ever’ During Landmark Beijing Visit

BEIJING — U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed high optimism for the future of Washington-Beijing relations, predicting that the bond between the two superpowers will soon become “better than ever.” Speaking ahead of a high-stakes summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump signaled a desire for a new era of cooperation.

The President began his remarks by touting his “great” U.S. delegation, which notably includes a heavyweight roster of CEOs from some of America’s most prominent corporations.

A ‘Grand’ Reception at the Great Hall
Arriving at the historic Great Hall of the People on Thursday morning, Trump was met with the full pomp and circumstance of a state visit. The venue, a massive structure on the edge of Tiananmen Square built in 1959, serves as the symbolic heart of Chinese diplomacy.

The reception included:

A 21-gun salute echoing through the square.

National Anthems: Military bands played “The Star-Spangled Banner” followed by the Chinese national anthem.

Military Honors: Trump saluted the honor guard while standing alongside President Xi on a ceremonial red-and-gold dais.

Rebuilding a Personal Bond
“It is an honor to be with you. It is an honor to be your friend,” Trump told Xi, emphasizing the personal nature of the diplomacy. This marks Trump’s first visit to the Chinese capital since 2017, and the stakes are notably higher given the current global economic climate.

While the President noted that “everyone back home” is talking about the summit, the underlying goal remains clear: stabilizing a relationship that has often been defined by friction over trade and regional security.
