Three leaders of major public hospitals in Manhattan have been named to the 2026 **‘Manhattan Power 100,’** an annual list highlighting influential figures in New York City politics, government, public policy and other sectors.
The three hospital executives—**Julian John**, CEO of Metropolitan Hospital; **Georges Leconte**, CEO of Harlem Hospital; and **Dr. Eric Wei**, CEO of Bellevue Hospital—were jointly ranked **64th** on this year’s list, published by *City & State New York*.
Their inclusion recognizes their leadership in New York City’s public healthcare system, efforts to expand access to medical services, and work serving low-income, underserved and vulnerable communities.
New York City Health + Hospitals is the largest municipal healthcare system in the United States, operating 11 hospitals across the city’s five boroughs. Three of its major Manhattan hospitals—Metropolitan, Harlem and Bellevue—are led by John, Leconte and Wei, respectively.
### Julian John: Expanding Integrated Care in East Harlem
As CEO of Metropolitan Hospital, Julian John oversees the hospital’s strategic planning and overall operations, with a particular focus on meeting the healthcare needs of immigrants, working-class families and underserved residents of East Harlem.
Under his leadership, the hospital has launched a specialized child development center focused on developmental and behavioral conditions. The center provides integrated care and support for children with autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, learning difficulties and other developmental challenges.
John has more than three decades of experience in healthcare administration, including financial management, hospital operations and institutional strategy. During his tenure, Metropolitan Hospital has received national recognition for its efforts to promote health equity, inclusion and community well-being.
He has also emphasized equal access to essential services, including mental healthcare, pediatric developmental care and cancer treatment.
### Georges Leconte: More Than Two Decades of Leadership at Harlem Hospital
Georges Leconte, CEO of Harlem Hospital, has more than two decades of experience in healthcare management.
During his tenure, the hospital has expanded advanced surgical services for complex eye conditions, particularly retinal disorders. Harlem Hospital has also continued programs aimed at treating victims of gun violence and addressing the long-term health consequences of violence.
Leconte has played an important role in managing labor relations and negotiations between hospital administrators and medical staff.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in science from Hunter College and a master’s degree in public administration from Alfred University. A registered respiratory therapist, Leconte also drew on his clinical expertise during the COVID-19 pandemic, working alongside frontline healthcare workers and directly participating in patient care while carrying out his administrative responsibilities.
### Dr. Eric Wei: Combining Clinical Care and Leadership at Bellevue
Dr. Eric Wei serves as CEO of Bellevue Hospital and as a senior vice president of New York City Health + Hospitals.
Founded in 1736, Bellevue is widely recognized as the oldest continuously operating hospital in the United States. Wei is an emergency medicine specialist who remains closely involved in clinical care and medical education while overseeing hospital operations.
He has worked in emergency departments across all 11 hospitals in New York City’s public healthcare system.
Under Wei’s leadership, Bellevue has focused on improving the quality of care, patient safety, employee well-being and the hospital’s long-term capacity.
He has also been a strong advocate for the mental health and well-being of healthcare workers. His **“Helping Healers Heal”** initiative was created to help doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals cope with workplace stress, trauma and burnout. The program has since expanded internationally, with large numbers of healthcare workers receiving training through the initiative.
Wei’s work has previously received national recognition, particularly for efforts to improve patient safety, healthcare quality and the well-being of medical professionals.
