Rumin Farhana on Hasina: Citizens Have the Right to Return Home

A citizen has a constitutional right to enter or leave the country at any time, said Rumin Farhana, a member of parliament from the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency. She made the remarks in response to questions about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s possible return to Bangladesh.

Rumin Farhana spoke to journalists on Friday (September 18) after attending a reception for meritorious students at the Ashuganj Upazila Parishad auditorium in Brahmanbaria. She said, “A Bangladeshi citizen can leave the country at any time and can also return. This is clearly stated in the Constitution. What action the government will take after the person returns to the country depends on the government.”

Recently, Rumin Farhana criticized various activities of the BNP government in a speech in Parliament. In protest, the Ashuganj Upazila BNP organized a broom procession against her and warned that she would be declared unwelcome in the area if she did not withdraw her remarks.

Commenting on the matter, Rumin Farhana said, “This happens in politics. There will be differences of opinion, people will be declared unwelcome, and there will be processions and rallies—that is politics. These are normal things.”
