Rahul Gandhi Calls for Ousting the Government After Education Minister’s Resignation

Following the resignation of India’s Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has called for the removal of the government, saying, “The time has come to oust this government.”

In a post on X on Saturday (25 July), Gandhi said that Pradhan’s resignation was “a major step towards rebuilding the country’s education system.” He also congratulated students across India who participated in the nationwide protests.

Gandhi added that two key demands remain unmet: Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise for the government’s handling of students, and those responsible for violence against students should be held accountable.

He further urged other sections of society—including farmers, workers, and the poor, whom he claimed had been oppressed by the government—to stand up for their rights and dignity through constitutional means.

“The time has come to remove this government. Do not be afraid,” Gandhi wrote.

In his resignation letter, Dharmendra Pradhan said he had stepped down to preserve national unity, protect students from legal complications, and safeguard their education and future.

On Friday, representatives of the protest-leading Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) met with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh. Following the meeting, the organisation said the government had requested one day to decide on the education minister’s resignation.
