Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has praised Lebanon’s armed group Hezbollah for its steadfast stance against Israel, describing the group’s long-running resistance as a source of inspiration for oppressed people around the world. He also claimed that there is “no alternative” to continuing jihad and resistance against the United States and Israel.
The remarks were included in a statement released on Sunday (July 26) by the Office of Iran’s Supreme Leader and later published by Iran’s state-run broadcaster Press TV. According to the statement, Khamenei was responding to a letter of allegiance sent by Hezbollah commanders and fighters.
In his message, Khamenei said Hezbollah has remained firm in the face of what he described as the “brutal aggression” of Israel and its allies. He argued that many nations have grown weary of what he called the oppression and destructive policies of the United States and Israel, adding that resistance remains the only path forward.
He further said Hezbollah’s years of struggle have become an inspiration for people seeking freedom, encouraging others to stand against injustice and domination.
Khamenei also praised Hezbollah’s commanders and fighters for their patience, sacrifice, and perseverance. He said their commitment is rooted in Islamic values, religious principles, and the legacy of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of Iran’s Islamic Republic. The statement added that Iran considers supporting and protecting Hezbollah fighters a strategic responsibility.
According to Press TV, Khamenei claimed that opposition to U.S. and Israeli policies is growing around the world. He reiterated that “there is no path forward except jihad and resistance” and expressed confidence that the resistance movement would ultimately prevail.
The Iranian leader also commended the resilience of the Lebanese people, particularly residents of southern Lebanon, saying their sacrifices have been crucial to sustaining Hezbollah’s resistance movement. He again emphasized that protecting Hezbollah fighters remains one of Iran’s strategic priorities.
The statement said Iran views two conditions as essential for any ceasefire or political agreement: preserving Lebanon’s territorial integrity and bringing Israel’s military operations to a complete and unconditional end.
Khamenei also paid tribute to Hezbollah’s late Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and other members killed in the conflict. He said their sacrifices helped transform Hezbollah from a small organization into a powerful movement, elevating Lebanon’s standing across the Islamic world.
He concluded his message by praying for Hezbollah fighters, veteran members, displaced civilians, and the families of those killed, while expressing hope for the movement’s eventual success.
According to Press TV, the message was sent in response to a letter from Hezbollah members reaffirming their loyalty to Khamenei and their commitment to continue fighting until they achieve what they described as victory.
