Sylhet Correspondent: The mysterious death of 29-year-old housewife **Jhumki Deb** in Hetimganj of Golapganj, Sylhet, has sparked widespread concern and speculation. On the evening of May 24, her hanging body was recovered from her in-laws’ residence in the Purbapara area of Fulbari Union. What makes the incident even more troubling is that she had been married for only two and a half months.
Jhumki Deb, daughter of **Sanat Deb** of the Adhirer Dokan area in Bagha Union, Golapganj, was married to **Chanchal Das** of Hetimganj Purbapara. According to family members, her married life was far from peaceful. They allege that she had been subjected to both physical and mental abuse by her husband and members of her in-laws’ family since the marriage.
The victim’s relatives strongly reject the suggestion of suicide. They claim Jhumki was deliberately killed and that efforts are being made to portray the death as a suicide. Family members say she repeatedly informed them about the difficulties and mistreatment she was facing, but no effective resolution was found. They believe the abuse ultimately
led to her tragic death.
News of the incident quickly spread throughout the area, triggering anger and concern among local residents.
