Global Bangladeshi Chamber of Commerce Launches in New York

The Global Bangladeshi Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) has officially launched in New York, with the aim of strengthening commercial ties among Bangladeshi-origin businesspeople, entrepreneurs, investors and professionals around the world and creating new opportunities for global trade and investment.

The organization formally began its activities on Friday, September 25, with an inauguration ceremony and a “Meet the Press” event at the New York Marriott Marquis. Business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, professionals, community leaders, trade representatives, journalists and members of the Bangladeshi business community attended the event.

Focus on Global Business Connections

GBCC founders Kazi M. Ahmed, Sheikh Galib Rahman and Redwan Chowdhury outlined the organization’s objectives and future plans at the event.

The founders said the chamber was established to give greater institutional shape to the international connections that already exist among Bangladeshi-origin entrepreneurs and business leaders in the United States, Bangladesh and other countries.

GBCC plans to work on international trade and investment, entrepreneurship and business development, cross-border commercial partnerships, investment and market access, professional networking, business leadership and education, and international business development.

The organization also intends to facilitate strategic partnerships between Bangladeshi-origin businesses and business communities in other countries.

Connecting Entrepreneurs Across Markets

Alongside the United States and Bangladesh, GBCC plans to strengthen economic links among Bangladeshi entrepreneurs based in countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Italy, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Co-founder Kazi M. Ahmed said there was a need for a practical platform where businesses could find partners beyond geographical boundaries, exchange knowledge and explore new commercial opportunities.

Co-founder Sheikh Galib Rahman said connecting business communities across countries and creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and emerging business leaders would be among GBCC’s key objectives.

Another co-founder, Redwan Chowdhury, said the chamber would seek to go beyond networking and help turn business relationships into concrete commercial and economic opportunities.

He said the global Bangladeshi business community is diverse and increasingly connected to international markets. By building bridges among markets, people and opportunities, GBCC aims to expand prospects for trade, investment, entrepreneurship and economic growth.

Networking, Investment and Market Access

During the “Meet the Press” session, journalists and media representatives held discussions with the founders on GBCC’s plans for business development, international trade, investment, entrepreneurship, membership and global engagement.

Organizers said the chamber would seek to provide Bangladeshi businesspeople and entrepreneurs around the world with access to business information, networking opportunities, potential partnerships and international markets.

GBCC plans to conduct its activities through business forums, networking programs, educational initiatives, strategic partnerships and international engagement, according to the organizers.
