Bangladeshi National Killed in Malaysia Crash Involving Allegedly Drunk Military Officer

A Bangladeshi national has been killed in a road accident in Malaysia after a military officer, reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol, crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

The incident occurred early Thursday (April 23) along the MEX Highway in Kuala Lumpur, heading towards Jalan Tun Razak from the Salak Selatan direction.

According to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, authorities were alerted to the crash at approximately 5:38am.

Preliminary findings indicate that the 31-year-old military officer, driving a Ford Fiesta, entered the highway against traffic flow before colliding head-on with a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) operating as an e-hailing service.

At the time of the crash, the e-hailing vehicle was carrying two Bangladeshi passengers returning from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). A 22-year-old Bangladeshi man, who was seated in the middle row, died at the scene due to the impact.

A 20-year-old Bangladeshi woman and the 41-year-old e-hailing driver sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

Police also confirmed that the military officer and a 36-year-old local female passenger in his vehicle were injured.

Authorities said a breathalyzer test indicated that the officer had consumed alcohol beyond the legal limit. He has since been arrested, and a case has been filed under Section 44(1) of Malaysia’s Road Transport Act 1987.

Police have urged witnesses to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
