Starting October 1, 2026, the Bangladesh Consulate General in New York will accept consular fees for in-person services only by debit or credit card.
The Consulate General announced the change in a press release issued Wednesday, saying that money orders and bank-certified checks will no longer be accepted for services provided to applicants appearing in person at the consulate.
Cash payments and other alternative payment methods will also not be accepted for in-person applications under the new policy.
The existing payment rules will remain unchanged for applications submitted by mail. Applicants sending their documents by post will continue to be able to pay their fees using a money order or bank-certified check.
The new policy applies only to individuals who visit the consulate in person to obtain services.
The consulate has advised service seekers to bring a valid and active debit or credit card when visiting the office.
According to the Consulate General, the payment system is being modernized as part of efforts to provide expatriate Bangladeshis with more efficient, high-quality and timely consular services.
The Bangladesh Consulate General in New York has requested the cooperation of all concerned in implementing the new payment policy.
