Argentina Plan Two Home Friendlies in November, With Uruguay and Costa Rica in Contention

Argentina are working to arrange two home friendlies for the November FIFA international window after plans for an Asian tour were dropped. Uruguay and Costa Rica have emerged as possible opponents, although the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has yet to confirm the fixtures.

According to Argentine media reports, the world champions are discussing a meeting with Uruguay at La Bombonera, Boca Juniors’ historic home ground in Buenos Aires. The potential clash would renew one of South America’s most intense football rivalries, known as the Río de la Plata derby.

Costa Rica are also being considered for one of Argentina’s two matches. The federation is exploring venues in Argentina, with the final arrangements expected to depend on ongoing negotiations.

The November international window runs from November 9 to 17. Reports suggest the proposed friendlies would give Argentina an opportunity to close out the year in front of their home supporters, but neither the opponents nor the schedule has been officially announced.

Argentina head into the planning period after a productive run of friendly matches. They defeated Bolivia 4-0 at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium in Córdoba, thrashed Burkina Faso 7-0 at River Plate’s Monumental Stadium and then beat Benin 3-0 in what was described as Lionel Messi’s farewell appearance for the national team.

The match against Benin was an emotional occasion, with supporters gathering at the Monumental to celebrate Messi’s international career. Attention has now shifted to Argentina’s next fixtures as the team prepares for the upcoming international break.

If the proposed matches go ahead, a meeting with Uruguay at La Bombonera would be a major attraction for fans. The AFA’s formal announcement is still awaited.
