Deshi Tribune Desk: Masum Mahbub, Executive Director of Human Concern USA, has provided a donation to support scholarships for 50 students under the education assistance program of The Optimists, a New York–based nonprofit humanitarian organization.
The contribution was made on Monday, March 9, during an informal gathering at a restaurant in Astoria, New York.
Those present at the event included one of the founders of The Optimists and freedom fighter Rafiquddin Chowdhury Rana, freedom fighter Subrata Biswas, Minhaj Shambhu, Javed Uddin of Astoria Welfare, travel entrepreneur Nazrul Islam, Ibrahim Chowdhury, editor of Prothom Alo North America, the publication’s executive editor Monjurul Haque, and JASAD leader and community organizer Dewan Shahed Chowdhury, along with several other members of the Bangladeshi community.
Speakers at the gathering said that for the past 26 years, The Optimists has supported underprivileged students in Bangladesh through individual donations. Through this humanitarian initiative, thousands of students have received assistance to continue their education.
During the discussion session, Masum Mahbub briefly highlighted the global humanitarian activities and initiatives of his organization. He then handed over the donation to The Optimists’ leadership to sponsor 50 students through the organisation’s scholarship program.
The Optimists is a U.S.-based nonprofit humanitarian and service organization that works to ensure educational opportunities for underprivileged children in Bangladesh. The organization’s main objective is to prevent school dropouts by providing scholarships to
talented but financially disadvantaged students across different districts of the country.
Currently, the organization is providing regular support to more than 1,100 students in about 22 districts of Bangladesh. The assistance includes financial support for school and college tuition, fees, and necessary educational materials.
Leaders of the organization expressed hope that with continued support from Bangladeshi expatriates, the scholarship program will expand further in the future.
