White House Launches 24/7 ‘Trump TV’ Amid Escalating Media Access Dispute

The White House has launched a new 24-hour streaming service called “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,” escalating an already heated dispute between President Donald Trump’s administration and several major US news organizations.

The digital channel, launched Monday and available through the White House’s official website and YouTube, features presidential speeches, administration announcements and other videos highlighting the Trump administration. The launch came days after the White House barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from its grounds.

The three news organizations filed a lawsuit in federal court in Washington on Monday, arguing that the administration’s decision violated their First Amendment press rights and their Fifth Amendment due-process rights. They are seeking an order restoring their access to the White House.

Trump Defends Media Restrictions

Trump has defended the restrictions on Truth Social, arguing that the outlets publish what he describes as “fake news.” He has also questioned why journalists who rely on anonymous sources should be given access to the White House.

The White House, meanwhile, has maintained that access to the presidential complex is a privilege rather than an automatic right. The administration has argued that the restrictions concern media access rather than the outlets’ ability to publish their reporting.

The three outlets, however, contend that their access was revoked because the administration objected to their reporting. Their lawsuit argues that the decision was retaliatory and discriminated against their viewpoint.

Major Networks Suspend White House Pool Coverage

The dispute also disrupted the White House television press pool.

ABC, CBS, Fox News, NBC and CNN are part of the rotating television pool that provides shared video coverage of presidential events. After CNN was removed from the pool, the other major networks said they would suspend coverage of events designated for the presidential TV pool rather than provide a replacement team.

As a result, television coverage of a White House event Monday was severely limited. Trump’s remarks during an event involving the new White House helipad were difficult to hear because the usual television pool was not providing the normal live audio and video feed.

The networks said in a joint statement that the public has an interest in receiving accurate and independent information about the government and that an administration should not restrict a news organization because it disagrees with its reporting.

Lawsuit Now Before Federal Court

CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed their lawsuit on September 21. The case was assigned to US District Judge Timothy J. Kelly in Washington, who previously handled CNN correspondent Jim Acosta’s legal challenge over his White House press credentials during Trump’s first administration.

The latest dispute has therefore moved beyond a disagreement between the president and individual news organizations and into the federal courts, where the administration’s restrictions on White House press access will be examined.

Meanwhile, the launch of Trump TV gives the White House a direct digital platform for distributing presidential speeches, administration announcements and other official video without relying on the traditional television press pool.
