Iran is reportedly preparing for a coordinated large-scale attack on Israel involving its regional allies and armed groups, according to an Israeli intelligence assessment. The plan is said to resemble the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, but with a key difference: multiple Iran-aligned groups could launch attacks from several fronts simultaneously.
According to The Jerusalem Post, Iran is attempting to bring various members of its so-called “Axis of Resistance” into a coordinated operation. The groups reportedly include Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, Hamas in Gaza, and Iran-aligned armed factions in Iraq and Syria.
Israeli intelligence officials claim that although Hamas carried out its massive attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Hezbollah and Iran did not launch full-scale operations at the same time.
Documents recovered from Gaza reportedly indicate that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar had envisioned a broader regional war. He apparently hoped that if Hamas’s initial assault succeeded, Iran and Hezbollah would join the conflict directly and on a large scale.
However, assessments by the United States and Israel have indicated that Iran and Hezbollah were not aware in advance of the detailed operational plan or the specific date of the October 7 attack. As a result, their responses that day were limited and largely uncoordinated.
A Coordinated Multi-Front Attack?
Israeli intelligence now claims that Iran is seeking to overcome that lack of coordination by developing a more integrated, multi-front attack strategy.
Under the reported plan, Hezbollah, the Houthis and various Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq could potentially begin operations against Israel on the same day or around the same time. Rather than waiting for an attack in one region to draw other groups into the conflict, the objective would reportedly be to create simultaneous pressure on Israel from multiple directions from the outset.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have also said that, with Iranian support, communication and coordination between Hamas and Hezbollah have increased again.
According to the Israeli military, the aim may be to increase pressure on Israel from both the northern and southern fronts.
Increased Activity by Iran’s Quds Force
According to the report, senior commanders from the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have held meetings and online conferences with commanders from Hezbollah, the Houthis and Iraqi militias to discuss expanding military operations.
Military and personal contacts between the groups have reportedly also become closer, while Israeli intelligence has allegedly identified instances of joint training.
The Israeli assessment further claims that Iran is simultaneously working to rebuild its military capabilities after suffering damage in previous U.S. and Israeli attacks.
However, neither Iran nor the armed groups mentioned in the report have independently confirmed that such a coordinated attack plan is currently being prepared. The claims therefore remain based primarily on Israeli intelligence assessments and media reports.
