SANAA — The Yemeni military launched a targeted assault against a major Houthi installation in the northern Al-Jawf governorate, knocking out a significant portion of the insurgent group’s operational infrastructure at the site.Speaking on state television, Yemeni Army Spokesman Col. Majid al-Nuzaili confirmed that government forces executed an operation targeting the strategic Al-Labanat military encampment.
Al-Nuzaili disclosed that the strike deployed “specialized military capabilities” recently integrated into active service. “The operation successfully neutralized several combatants and degraded key military assets positioned at the base,” al-Nuzaili stated, though he withheld specific figures regarding casualties or the exact weaponry utilized in the barrage. The escalation comes after a period of relative calm following an April 2022 truce.
The conflict originally erupted a decade ago when Iran-backed Houthi rebels seized the capital, Sanaa, along with large swathes of northern Yemen, driving out the internationally recognized government supported by a Saudi-led coalition. Tensions in the region spiked following late 2023, as the Houthis expanded their operations by launching missile strikes toward Israel and targeting international maritime traffic across the Red Sea. Analysts warn that recent skirmishes across northern fronts threaten to unravel the fragile peace and thrust Yemen back into a full-scale civil war.
