US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, saying he was pleased that the couple had left the United States and returned to the United Kingdom. Trump also said that, if he were a member of the British royal family, he would not have welcomed them back.
Trump made the remarks on Wednesday, September 2, while answering questions from reporters at the Oval Office.
Trump Says He Was Not a Fan of the Couple
According to Pakistani media outlet Samaa TV, Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, recently decided to return to Britain after spending about six years in California.
The couple arrived in the UK at the end of August. They had moved to the United States in 2020 after stepping back from their official roles as senior members of the royal family.
“I’m happy about it. I was not a fan of theirs,” Trump told reporters.
He accused Harry and Meghan of showing what he described as “very disrespectful behavior” toward members of the royal family.
Trump also referred to his relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Trump Targets Meghan’s Conduct
The US president was particularly critical of Meghan, saying he did not approve of the way she had behaved.
“I didn’t like her behavior. I thought she was very disrespectful,” Trump said.
He added that if he had been part of the royal family, he would not have accepted the couple back.
Harry and Meghan’s Earlier Royal Family Claims
After moving to the US, Harry accused members of the royal family of neglecting him and his wife. Meghan also alleged in an interview that there had been discussions and concerns within the royal family about how dark the skin of their unborn child might be.
Harry’s elder brother, Prince William, defended the royal family following the allegations, saying: “We’re very much not a racist family.”
Harry also cited intense media scrutiny and concerns over security for his family as among the reasons behind their decision to leave Britain.
Their Future in Britain
Although Harry and Meghan have returned to the UK, they are not expected to resume duties as working members of the royal family for now.
A person close to the couple reportedly said last month that they were considering spending an extended period outside London with their children. Their son, Prince Archie, and daughter, Princess Lilibet, are also expected to attend school in Britain.
The precise reason for Harry and Meghan’s latest return remains unclear. Harry has previously said that he wanted his children to spend more time in the UK and develop a stronger connection with the country.
