A deadly shooting at an apartment building in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, has left at least three people dead, including the suspected gunman, according to local authorities and a report by NDTV.
Minneapolis police said the suspect died during the incident after opening fire at the apartment complex. Two other people were also killed in the shooting.
Three Police Officers Injured
Minneapolis Police Sergeant Garrett Parten said at a Wednesday evening press conference that three police officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire. Two of the officers suffered gunshot wounds.
Hospital officials said all three officers were in stable condition.
One of the other victims died at the scene, while another was taken to a hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.
Seven People Taken to Hospital
Hennepin Healthcare Medical Center said a total of seven people were transported to a nearby hospital following the shooting. Authorities did not immediately provide detailed information about the conditions of all those injured.
Following the incident, Minneapolis police urged residents and visitors to avoid the affected area.
FBI Assists Local Investigation
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said on social media that state officials were assisting local law enforcement at the scene. He thanked the officers and emergency personnel who responded to the shooting and said he was praying for those who were injured.
The FBI has also joined the investigation and offered assistance to local authorities. FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency would provide whatever support was needed.
Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth described the incident as a “heinous crime” and expressed condolences to those who were killed or injured. She also praised law enforcement officers for their swift response to the shooting.
