Sunita Ahuja, the wife of Bollywood actor Govinda, has expressed deep concern over the devastating floods in Nepal and called for support for people affected by the disaster.
Although Sunita was born in India, Nepal has a special place in her life because her family has strong roots in Kathmandu. Her mother and grandmother were residents of the Nepali capital, and she continues to maintain a close connection with the country.
Images of the recent flash floods and widespread destruction in Nepal have left Sunita deeply distressed. She said she is currently looking for a reliable channel through which she can provide financial assistance to people affected by the disaster.
Family Ties to Nepal
Sunita said her relationship with Nepal goes beyond personal affection and is rooted in her family history. She regularly visits the country and traditionally celebrates the New Year there with her daughter Tina.
One of their family traditions is to visit the Pashupatinath Temple on January 1 and seek blessings before beginning the New Year.
Speaking about the disaster, Sunita said she was heartbroken to see the scale of the flooding. She noted that although she was not born in Nepal, her mother and grandmother were from Kathmandu, making the country especially close to her heart.
Wants Aid to Reach Those in Need
Sunita said she wants to ensure that any donation she makes reaches people genuinely affected by the disaster.
“I am trying to get in touch with someone who can ensure that my donation reaches the right people,” she said, adding that she wants to contribute as much as possible to relief efforts.
She also appealed to members of the entertainment industry to come forward and support Nepal during the crisis.
Prayers for Nepal
Sunita described actress Manisha Koirala as being like a sister to her and said she believes Koirala is also doing everything she can to help people affected by the disaster.
She concluded by saying she is praying to Lord Pashupatinath for conditions in Nepal to return to normal as soon as possible and for the country not to face such a devastating crisis again.
“Nepal is in my heart,” Sunita said.
