New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Theater Development Fund (TDF) have announced that more than 2,000 free tickets to Broadway productions will be offered to New York City high school students.
Students in grades 9 through 12 across New York City will be eligible to enter the ticket lottery. Those selected will be able to claim up to two tickets.
Seven Broadway productions are participating in this year’s initiative: Buena Vista Social Club, In the Heights, School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, The Lost Boys, The Great Gatsby, and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).
Students can enter the lottery until 10 a.m. on Monday, August 17, by visiting on.nyc.gov/Broadway.
Every student who enters the lottery will also automatically receive a free two-month TDF membership. The membership allows students to purchase discounted tickets, typically priced between $20 and $40, for Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway shows.
TDF membership also provides students with free or significantly discounted admission to more than 20 cultural institutions across New York City. Participating organizations include the American Museum of Natural History, Brooklyn Museum, Carnegie Hall, Flushing Town Hall, Lincoln Center, MoMA PS1, New York Hall of Science, Queens Botanical Garden and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Even after the Broadway ticket lottery closes, students will be able to take advantage of the free two-month TDF membership through September 13.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said every young person in New York City should have the opportunity to experience the city’s rich arts and cultural offerings, regardless of their financial circumstances.
