The United States has reportedly carried out fresh airstrikes on two strategic cities in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan Province amid escalating regional tensions, according to Iranian state media.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA, citing Khuzestan Deputy Governor Valiollah Hayati, said the strikes targeted the port city of Mahshahr and the historic city of Abadan on Tuesday.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, the first strike was reported in Abadan at approximately 1:25 p.m. local time, followed by a second attack in nearby Mahshahr about five minutes later.
Mahshahr is a key commercial port on the Persian Gulf, while Abadan is home to one of the Middle East’s oldest and most significant oil refineries, making both locations strategically important.
The reported strikes come as fighting continues in border areas and regional tensions remain high. Iranian authorities did not immediately provide information on casualties or the extent of the damage.
There has been no immediate confirmation or comment from U.S. officials regarding the reported airstrikes. The claims could not be independently verified.
