Iran’s Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has said that after failing in military aggression against Iran, the United States and Israel are now attempting to create division and internal conflict within the country.
In a message issued on Thursday (May 28), he said that after imposing war, economic pressure, propaganda, and sanctions, the enemies are now pursuing what he described as a “blind conspiracy” aimed at creating social division and discord. According to him, these efforts are intended to compensate for their military failures and force the Iranian nation into submission.
Khamenei delivered the message on the anniversary of the opening session of Iran’s parliament, the Islamic Consultative Assembly. The parliament officially began its journey on May 28, 1980.
He congratulated the Iranian people and members of parliament on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and the anniversary of the parliament’s first session. He also praised lawmakers, especially Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, for their efforts in advancing the country.
The Supreme Leader described Iran’s parliament as the essence of the nation, a manifestation of religious democracy, and the central pillar of legislation in the Islamic Republic. He said the parliament plays a vital role in implementing the will of the people.
Referring to recent tensions, Ayatollah Khamenei stated that three months have passed since the end of what he called the “third sacred defense.” During this period, he said, the internal strength, faith, hope, and determination of the Iranian people had become evident to both friends and enemies.
He was referring to the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran that reportedly began on February 28 and ended on April 8 after 40 days of intense confrontation. According to the statement, the aggression was halted following strong retaliatory strikes by Iran on US and Israeli positions across the region.
