Former Senior CIA Official Arrested After FBI Finds $40 Million in Gold Bars at Virginia Home

The FBI was left stunned after raiding the Virginia home of a former senior CIA official and discovering 303 gold bars worth nearly $40 million, along with $2 million in cash and dozens of luxury Rolex watches.

The arrested official, identified as David Rush, had reportedly served in the CIA’s Senior Executive Service until recently. According to court documents, between November and March he claimed large quantities of gold and foreign currency from the agency as “operational expenses.” The matter came to light when a routine CIA audit revealed that the assets had disappeared from government custody. CIA Director John Ratcliffe later referred the case to the FBI.

In addition to accusations of embezzlement, Rush is also facing serious allegations of falsifying his résumé. He claimed to hold a mathematics degree from Clemson University and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. However, investigators found no records of him at either institution. Authorities also say he forged certificates from the U.S. Air Force and the Naval Test Pilot School. In reality, investigators claim he never held a pilot’s license and had primarily worked as an IT technician.

Rush is also accused of military fraud. After joining the Navy in 1997 and receiving an honorable discharge in 2015, he allegedly continued presenting himself as an active Navy Reserve captain. Prosecutors say he fraudulently collected around $77,000 in military leave benefits.

At present, Rush has been arrested on charges related to résumé fraud and theft of military benefits, and he remains in federal custody. Investigations into the massive cache of gold, cash, and luxury items are still ongoing, with the FBI, CIA, and the Department of Justice jointly examining the full extent of the case.

The incident has raised serious questions about how someone accused of such extensive deception was able to remain in a high-ranking position within one of America’s most sensitive intelligence agencies for so long.

Middle East Conflict Escalates as U.S.-Iran Tensions and Israeli Strikes Continue Through Eid

Violence across the Middle East continues to intensify despite ongoing diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a retaliatory strike on a U.S. airbase that it says had been used in earlier attacks on Iranian targets. At the same time, Israeli military operations in Gaza and Lebanon have continued even during the Eid al-Adha holiday.

On May 27, U.S. forces launched fresh strikes near the Strait of Hormuz, targeting what American officials described as an Iranian military site and several drones considered a threat to U.S. troops and commercial shipping in the strategic waterway. Iranian state media confirmed strikes near Bandar Abbas but claimed there were no casualties or significant damage.

Later, the IRGC announced that it had launched an attack on a “U.S. airbase” at around 4:50 a.m. local time, warning that stronger retaliation would follow if American “aggression” continued.

The rising tensions have already shaken Asian financial markets. Major stock indexes in South Korea, Hong Kong, and Australia opened lower, while oil prices surged above $95 per barrel for Brent crude and above $91 for U.S. crude futures. With the Strait of Hormuz still partially disrupted, nearly 20,000 sailors are reportedly stranded aboard hundreds of ships. Before the conflict, around 125 to 140 vessels passed through the strait daily.

Kuwait’s military also reported intercepting hostile missiles and drones, though officials did not specify where the attacks originated. It marks the latest in a series of incidents affecting Kuwait during the conflict.

Meanwhile, diplomatic negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain difficult. Trump has stated clearly that sanctions on Iran will not be lifted as part of any agreement. Although talks in Doha were described as “generally positive,” major disagreements remain unresolved. Trump also warned that Iran would not be able to “play for time” in negotiations.

In Gaza, the human toll of the conflict continues to grow. Resident Walaa Baroud held what she described as her last family photograph during Eid celebrations. Of the 22 people pictured, only nine remain alive after repeated Israeli airstrikes reportedly killed the other 13. More than 80 members of her extended family have reportedly died during the war.

On Eid night, at least six people were killed and 20 injured after an Israeli strike on a residential building in Gaza City’s al-Rimal district. The Israeli military claimed the attack killed Mohammad Odeh, a commander in Hamas’s Qassam Brigades.

In Lebanon, Israel ordered residents of the historic port city of Tyre to evacuate north of the Zahrani River before launching airstrikes just hours later. Additional attacks were reported across southern Lebanon during Eid. Since March, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have reportedly killed more than 3,200 people and injured nearly 9,700 others.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Eid prayers, calling him a “tyrant” and warning that the Muslim world would respond.

According to the report, the wider conflict began on February 28, 2026, when the United States and Israel jointly launched strikes on Iran that allegedly killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran then retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. bases and allied countries across the Middle East.

The war has severely disrupted global trade and air travel, and despite ongoing diplomacy, there is still no sign of the conflict ending. Civilians, including children and entire families, continue to bear the brunt of the violence.
