Renowned Bangladeshi bass guitarist A.M.M. Newaz Sharif has received prestigious recognition from the New York State Assembly for his outstanding contributions to music and cultural exchange on the global stage.
At a ceremony held in New York on April 24, Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar presented Sharif with a “Certificate of Merit” and an official “Proclamation” in recognition of his artistic excellence and international achievements.
A.M.M. Newaz Sharif has emerged as one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated musicians in the international music arena. Born in 1994, he has built a remarkable two-decade career and established himself as one of the country’s highest-paid and technically accomplished bass players.
In its proclamation, the New York State Assembly described Sharif as a “structural architect” of music whose performances play a vital role in maintaining the rhythm and balance of live musical productions.
Sharif’s international recognition has continued to grow in recent years. His accolades include the Global Music Appreciation Award (2023) for outstanding contribution to world music, the Dhallywood Film and Music Award (2023) for Best Bass Guitarist, the NRB Award (2023) for achievements as a successful Bangladeshi expatriate, and the Gemini Award (2025), regarded as one of the highest recognitions in music excellence.
Known for his mastery of rock, classical, pop, and folk fusion, Sharif has contributed to numerous successful albums, films, and television productions. Despite residing in New York, he remains actively involved in mentoring young musicians through music education initiatives.
Speaking at the event, Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar praised Sharif’s professionalism and creativity, stating that his work enriches not only the Bangladeshi community but also New York’s multicultural artistic landscape.
In an emotional response after receiving the honor, Sharif said the recognition from a state institution further increases his sense of responsibility as an artist.
“From the Global Music Appreciation Award to this proclamation from New York State, all of these achievements belong to the love and support of the people of Bangladesh,” he said. “I want to represent the red and green flag of Bangladesh on the global stage for the rest of my life.”
Sharif’s latest achievement is being viewed as a major inspiration for aspiring Bangladeshi musicians seeking to establish themselves in the international performing arts industry.
