New York, March 25, 2026 — Progressive Forum USA is set to celebrate Bangladesh’s Independence Day with a community event on Saturday, March 28, at 5:00 PM in Jackson Heights, New York.
The program will be held at a local venue known as Zuis Centre, where members of the Bangladeshi diaspora, community leaders, and well-wishers are expected to gather to mark the historic significance of March 26, 1971.
In a joint statement, the organisation’s President Hafizul Haque and General Secretary Zakir Hossain Bacchu extended a warm invitation to expatriate Bangladeshis and supporters, encouraging strong community participation.
The program will include tributes to the sacrifices and achievements of the 1971 Liberation War, with special recognition of the freedom fighters. Organisers have planned a range of patriotic cultural performances, including music and dance inspired by the war, as well as
a discussion session focused on engaging the younger generation growing up abroad.
Several distinguished speakers, including academics, economists, and cultural figures, are expected to address the audience. Their discussions will highlight the history and significance of Bangladesh’s independence and the importance of preserving its values among the diaspora.
Progressive Forum USA, which promotes secular, democratic, and humanitarian ideals, has been actively organising community programs in New York to uphold the spirit of Bangladesh’s Liberation War and independence.
Organisers expressed optimism that this year’s celebration will once again see strong community participation. They believe such gatherings play an important role in strengthening unity among expatriates and renewing commitment to the ideals that shaped Bangladesh. The event is open to all.
