Bangladeshi-American Nihal Rahim Re-Elected Chair of County Democratic Party in Texas

Staff Reporter: Bangladeshi-American community leader Nihal Rahim has been re-elected as Chair of the Democratic Party in Refugee County, South Texas. The party’s candidate selection election was held on March 3, where Rahim secured victory in the Democratic primary.

Winning the Democratic nomination in the county is widely considered equivalent to winning the general election, as most registered voters in the area are affiliated with the Democratic Party.

Originally from the Chattogram region of Bangladesh, Rahim has been serving as Chair of the County Democratic Party since 2021. The county holds significant political importance because of its influence in Texas State Senate and U.S. Congressional elections. As a result, Bangladeshi Americans have gradually established a notable presence in the Democratic political landscape in the region.

Known for his approachable and friendly personality, Rahim is also involved in the real estate business. He has made substantial investments in Bangladesh as well. In recognition of his contributions to investment and business, the Government of Bangladesh awarded him the Commercially Important Person (CIP) status several years ago. Rahim has also received recognition from the Bangladesh Bank.

Political observers note that Rahim’s growing popularity in the county—home to Mexican, Central American, and White American communities—has positioned him as an emerging Democratic organizer. Many believe his increasing influence could pave the way for a stronger role in mainstream national politics.
